Dave says:
"I left another trade union and joined UNISON. I got unswerving support from Jane and the HFI convenor, Denise.
I couldn't have asked for better service and better representation.
Why anybody would stand against Jane astounds me completely.
Vote for Jane."
How can someone who works in equalities potentially put someone out of work. A woman who is the sole bread winner with no substantive post to return too it is beggers belief. VOTE FOR JANE
ReplyDeleteReally? So no one can use their democratic right to stand for election because Jane has no substantive post to go back too?
ReplyDeleteSurely that begs the question how good is the branch and branch secretary that they haven't managed to sort out a substantive post to go back to - or a guarantee of a post to go back to once secondment ends. The job isn't for life you know.

ReplyDeleteWe respond to "Jane (a different one)":
DeleteThis blog does repond to views raised by readers.
Jane does not share the view expressed by Rosemary.
It is quite right that nobody has the right to a job for life. Jane and the team have not stated this in the hustings or our material.
This process that we are in is a democratic one and people should support Jane on the grounds of her record and her experience, not the fact that she may be jobless should she lose the election.
It is not uncommon for Branch Secretary's who have been on secondments as long as Jane to have no post to return to.
In my capacity as Jane's deputy, I also have no post to return to.
The previous Branch Secretary of Camden LG Branch had no substantive post to return to.
It is not a sign of the success or otherwise of the Branch that this is the case.
Jane has not made this an issue in the election. It was raised at a hustings by a supporter of Andrew.
Jane, if she loses, will go into the redeployment pool along with all other Council staff in the same position as her.
